Who We Are:

Switchboard Victoria Inc is a community based not for profit organisation. Switchboard provides peer-driven support services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and gender diverse, intersex, queer and asexual (LGBTIQA+) people, their families, allies and communities.

The Out & About Program:

Switchboard’s Out & About program is a free service connecting older LGBTI Victorians. Out & About aims to alleviate social isolation and loneliness experienced by LGBTI older people accessing aged care services. Out & About is Victoria’s only LGBTI specific CVS service and is funded by the national Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) and recently the RACV Community Foundation, in addition to other private donations.

Position Overview:

The aim of this role is to support the Out & About program grow through supporting current and future clients, planning and delivering occasional accessible events for older LGBTI people, and improving program communications. This work will be undertaken in collaboration with the Out & About team, including the Program Manager and Outreach Officer.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  1. Applicant must identify as part of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender diverse, Intersex, asexual communities (LGBTIQA+) [Switchboard Victoria has an exemption under Equal Employment];
  2. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values which underpin Switchboard and willing to participate in an organisational culture of reflection and continuous learning;
  3. Highly developed interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with people from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds
  4. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, problem solve and achieve program objectives with limited supervision
  5. An understanding of the complex issues faced by LGBTI communities including older people
  6. Enjoy working for and with older LGBTIQ+ people, including older people with complex needs
  7. Experience in organising and delivering accessible events
  8. A current Australian drivers’ licence (or equivalent)
