Senior Policy / Project Officer

Parkinson's Australia (PA) is the national peak body and charity working to advocate for and support all Australians living with Parkinson’s.  

PA represents, at the national level, the interests of its members on all matters relating to Parkinson’s and carer issues. PA has a strong consumer focus and works with Parkinson’s state organisations (who provide support services, education and information) to advocate on behalf of the Parkinson’s community.

PA is going through an exciting growth phase.  As a part of this expansion, PA is looking for a Policy Advisor/project manager to undertake research and provide analysis on current issues relating to Parkinson’s Disease.

The role

This is an exceptional role for a candidate with demonstrable skills in developing and analysing public health policy. You will be working on a wide range of policy areas as they impact upon people with Parkinson’s Disease.  This position will see you working in a small member-based organisation managing projects and supporting a range of advocacy strategies at a National level.

In this role you will draft submissions, briefs, correspondence and other policy documents, manage projects and contribute to policy development. 

In this role you will:

  • Provide advice on new and existing government policy and develop policy positions on key issues.
  • Develop and implement strategies to put forward PA’s position, and to influence decision-makers.
  • Lead the preparation of submissions and represent PA at various external forums.
  • Conceptualise and manage projects that support the advocacy role of PA.
  • Raise the profile of PA’s advocacy program with internal and external stakeholders, to enhance the effectiveness of PA’s role as an advocate for people with Parkinson’s. 

The candidate

To be successful for this opportunity, you must have:

  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Experience in the development of policies, position statements and briefing papers
  • High quality communication skills both written and verbal
  • High level project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and work autonomously
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in policy, political science, health policy or similar
