The Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS) is a not-for-profit organisation providing pound, shelter and veterinary services to the Geelong region. The Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Head Veterinarian to join our team. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the role oversees the day to day operations of the veterinary practice and shelter and is responsible for managing both services, policies, processes, budgets and leading a team. The Head Veterinarian also participates as a critical part of GAWS' management team, making collaborative decisions focusing on successful outcomes for the organisation, it's employees, customers and community.

The position can be full time or part time, including weekdays and weekends as required, with negotiable commencement times. Organisational induction, ongoing training and learning programs are available to support personal and career development.

Experience & Skills

To be considered for this position you must be able to demonstrate:

  • An appropriate degree qualification, significant clinical experience and registration with an appropriate Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively leading and empowering staff and volunteers in a resource constraint environment.
  • The ability to develop policies and procedures, maintain high standards of administration and strong planning and organisational skills to effectively manage workloads, determine priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong commercial acumen with an ability to understand and determine key business drivers.
  • A team focus with exceptional communication and relationship building skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in effective employee management including interviewing techniques, rostering, performance management and training.
  • Strong customer service focus with ability to formulate suitable outcomes where appropriate.
  • Negotiation skills to balance conflicting requirements of multiple stakeholders to meet objectives.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently without supervision, and use initiative with full discretion.
  • Intermediate level of competency with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).

The successful applicant for this position will be required to undergo a pre employment Police Check and provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia.
