Contribute to surface water projects in Victoria.

We are building an inclusive workplace to help realise the potential of our employees, embrace our differences, and apply our diverse thinking to innovation and delivering services to Victorian communities. All jobs can be worked flexibly and we encourage job applications from Aboriginal people, people with disabilities, young people and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

The Department of Environment, Land Water and Planning (DELWP) has a requirement to fill a vacancy with a talented individual who can fill the combined role of Water Resource Analyst/ Project Manager, within the Surface Water Assessment and Modelling team. The Surface Water Assessment and Modelling team plays a key role in ensuring that decisions about Victoria’s surface water resources are supported by the best-available information and assessment.

Our successful candidate brings dual skills - surface water assessment and modelling, and project management skills. This role will have a focus on managing multiple and complex projects relating to Victoria’s surface water resources – therefore application of project management - from project planning to project delivery - is a required skill.

Further, our successful candidate will have expertise in surface water assessment, and subsequent well researched and well-developed analysis that contributes to the team providing comprehensive advice, in the lead up to forming policy responses to multifaceted issues as the water entitlement framework, interstate water-sharing arrangements, and policy and management decisions. For this reason, it is desirable our successful candidate has experience in the Victorian water industry or the Murray-Darling Basin.

A further focus will be to maintain stakeholder relationships with internal DELWP staff and key representatives in the water sector such as the various water corporations.  Therefore, our successful candidate will have demonstrated and well-honed stakeholder engagement skill as they liaise with all levels internally and externally.  You are required to competently represent DELWP - these interactions are easy for you and you are in your comfort zone when doing this.

You will be required to liaise regularly with such stakeholders to collate information, use information derived from the technical works as described above, contribute to writing technical outcomes, followed by communicating to the necessary groups. For this reason, you will have reliable written and verbal communication skills.

You are happy to come to work, roll up your sleeves and proactively respond to matters that arrive on your desk in a timely manner and assist team members when required, in what will be at times a fast-paced environment. Your technical, project management, communication and stakeholder engagement skills will be utilised as you navigate complex issues, conversations, expectations and the general demands and priorities of the role.

This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2020.
