Expressions of interest for the appointment of two board directors to Victoria’s Waste and Resource Recovery Groups are now open. One of these vacancies is with the Loddon Mallee Waste and Resource Recovery Group and the other with the Gippsland Waste and Resource Recovery Group. 

The Waste and Resource Recovery Groups report to the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change and are responsible for planning for Victoria’s current and future needs for waste and resource recovery infrastructure and minimising the impacts on the environment and human health. 

Victoria’s seven Waste Resource Recovery Groups are established under the Environment Protection Act 1970 and operate in Barwon South West, Gippsland, Goulburn Valley, Grampians Central West, Loddon Mallee, Metropolitan, and North East regions.

These Groups play a critical role in developing the plans, programs and infrastructure needed to support our waste and resource recovery system that minimises waste generation, maximises resource recovery and only uses landfill to dispose of materials that cannot be reused. The Groups also have a facilitative role in procurement of waste management facilities and waste and resource recovery services, delivery of education programs and waste and resource recovery projects.

Applicants will be short-listed on the basis of their skills, experience or knowledge in areas including:

  • Waste management
  • Materials efficiency
  • Contract management
  • Environmental policy
  • Risk management
  • Local government
  • Financial management 

In addition to the mandatory skills outlined above, general areas of skills or experience that would be considered favourably include:

  • Strategic thinker
  • Community and stakeholder management
  • Knowledge of circular economy

Board experience is desirable but not essential for the right candidate who can demonstrate the above skills.

These appointments will commence on 30 June 2019.
