  • Recruit, develop and manage a fully-tailored support team

Are you interested in independent work helping and supporting people with disability to have a good life?

Let us introduce you to a 47 year old lady with a love of animals, music and swimming.

Currently living in her own home in Cleveland, she has 24-hour support to assist her to live as full a life as possible. Care is currently being provided by an organisation that help her with some personal care, social and community participation and day to day tasks around the home.

Up until now, her sister has been coordinating the support and activities in her life and fought very hard along the way to create a life with choice and control. She is now inspired to take that one step further and transition to a more individualised model of support which will ultimately provide more flexibility, reliability, creativity and enrichment within her sister’s day to day life. This includes moving away from the service model of support and engaging a brand new team of supports that can provide the consistency, relationship building and trust needed so that life can be even better.

The role

This is an exciting time to come on board as this role is the starting point to this project. You will be instrumental in helping to engage and ultimately manage a team, coordinating the day to day running of this lovely lady’s life.

Along with coordinating and administration tasks you’d spend time getting to know her and building a valuable relationship. Immersing yourself in her life for a few hours a week so that you fully grasp her needs and desires. This will provide you with a great platform to be able to contribute to the sister’s vision for her.

Day to day activities would include:

  • Recruiting, training and managing the support team
  • Managing staff rosters and timesheets
  • Coordinating and resourcing activities and community inclusion projects
  • Coordinating Allied Health appointments
  • Organising regular team meetings
  • Designing systems and processes to manage reporting of day to day activities
  • Ensuring quality and safeguard processes and procedures are in place

About you:

You’d consider yourself a skilled and experienced professional with a flair for administration and process implementation. With exceptional communication and exposure to working within the disability field you’d easily liaise with many stakeholders in order to ensure goals and outcomes were achieved. Compassion and advocacy are part of your soul and you find meaning in making a difference to the lives of others. Your enthusiasm is infectious and you probably enjoy exploring many activities. Your compass is person centred and your strong connection with others along with your intuition means that you easily recognise when there is opportunity to progress or alternatively when something is challenging you can respond, redirect or soothe as is needed.

Other Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with people with a disability and their family desired but not essential if you identify strongly with this role
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience in developing local community networks
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and experience in leading and managing others
  • Superior organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Capacity to work from your own home, providing your own resources and equipment required including phone, internet and computer
  • Current positive notice for working with vulnerable people or willingness to obtain
  • Current criminal history check or willingness to obtain
  • Cert IV in disability desired but not essential
  • Own vehicle with open driver’s licence

The offer:

This is an opportunity to bring your skills, experience and values to significantly impact this lady’s day to day quality of life. Training will be provided including buddy shifts with current supports.

  • Negotiated hourly rate within upper limits of price guide

Hours:

As this is a developmental and strategic role, we foresee between 20-25 hours per week initially. This will be a good mix of working from home and on shift as you immerse yourself in her day to day life. The flexibility will provide an environment where work life balance can easily be achieved.
