The Organisation:

Rural Workforce Agency Northern Territory (RWA NT) are partnering with Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (Sunrise), to find a Primary Health Care Manager to join their committed team. Sunrise is a community controlled health organisation providing comprehensive primary health care services through nine remote health centres to some 4000 people living in the Katherine East region. Health centres are located at Barunga, Manyallaluk, Wugularr, Bulman, Mataranka, Jilkminggan, Minyerri, Ngukurr and Urapunga.

The Sunrise approach involves community people owning and controlling their health services. Strategic direction is set by the Sunrise board with the aim of providing comprehensive primary health care programs that are holistic and culturally safe. It is a "two way learning' model where program design combines traditional knowledge with Western evidence-based practice.

The Role:

The Primary Health Care Manager plays an integral role in the delivery of unique primary health care services to the Sunrise communities. A skilled and experienced leader, the primary health care manager will inspire a team of health professionals including Aboriginal Health Practitioners, nurses, GPs and visiting allied health professionals.

They will demonstrate resilience, excellent communication skills and be highly skilled at finding solutions for challenging situations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong background in people management, with experience in remote primary health care highly regarded.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating and helping to provide quality, comprehensive primary health care to individuals, families and the community
  • Overseeing the development of, and maintaining core primary health care skills within the team relevant to remote primary health care
  • Promoting and supporting Aboriginal Health Practitioners as the key health providers in the community
  • Providing quality supervision, guidance, training and support for all staff in their everyday work

Essential Criteria:

To be considered for this opportunity, you must meet the below essential criteria:
Only applicants with full working rights within Australia will be considered (Australian Citizen or Permanent Residents)

  • Current Resume with two contactable references 
  • Registration with the AHPRA as a general nurse or as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner
  • Proven broad, comprehensive primary health care experience with advanced clinical skills and competencies needed to work effectively in remote areas
  • Clear respect for Aboriginal culture, willingness to listen and learn as well as a commitment to participate in inter-cultural development activities
  • Current unrestricted manual driver's licence
  • Current Police clearance and Ochre Card (Working with Children) or willingness to obtain

The Location

The Katherine Region:

The town of Katherine is the thriving main town within this sub-tropical region, situated a three-hour drive south of Darwin. The main town is situated on the banks of the Katherine River and has a population of around 10,000 people while the larger Katherine region has a population of just over 24,000.

Katherine is well equipped as a regional town with a shopping centre that features a supermarket and many specialty shops. Katherine is on the edge of Kakadu National park which is filled with waterfalls and bush walks. Kayaking through the picturesque Katherine Gorge is a popular weekend activity.
