About the Role

This project extends the reach of current peer led activities by actively seeking out ‘hard to reach' individuals and communities who are at risk of experiencing drug related harms. The Overdose Response Peer Educator will be part of a two-worker team who will work together to engage people at risk of drug related harm and, through peer education and supported referrals, will train people in har reduction strategies and provide a conduit to mainstream health and welfare support.

About You

Our ideal candidate for this candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. AOD, community development, social work), Certificate IV or higher
  • A commitment to the principles of harm reduction
  • The ability to engage with service users in a warm, non-judgemental manner, demonstrate a strong customer service focussed approach
  • Minimum two years relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution and negotiation and the ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds
  • Sound knowledge of the health and social issues for people who use drugs such as overdose, blood borne virus prevention, pharmacotherapy treatment, stigma and discrimination
