About the role

The Family Dispute Resolution Service (FDRS) works with clients to resolve family law disputes. This high volume service provides best practice legally-assisted dispute resolution services to families, within a legal agency.

As a case manager, you will engage, assess and prepare clients so they can fully participate in a mediation conference conducted by an accredited family dispute resolution practitioner (chairperson), with the support of lawyers. As part of a case-management team, you will provide information, education and support services to FDRS clients, lawyers and other stakeholders. You will also work closely with professional and community agencies to help build an awareness of dispute resolution and improve access to it, as well as working within the FDRS team to evaluate how we work and ways we can continue to improve.

FDRS is committed to improving the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and staff. We are building cultural competency and working towards more culturally secure and safe family dispute resolution.

About you

You will have a relevant tertiary qualification and/or relevant experience in the legal or social services sectors, as well as highly developed communication and engagement skills. You will be able to engage with a wide range of clients, often with complex needs, including those with mental health issues, those who have experienced or used family violence, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and have some experience of assessing risk. You will have the capacity to manage a heavy workload under pressure, to successfully navigate change in work practices, and have the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Crucial to your success in this role will be your knowledge and understanding of issues that arise in separating families including an understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the ability to communicate in a culturally sensitive way with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You will also demonstrate a strong commitment to the vision and values of the organisation and supporting the key objectives and priorities within FDRS.
