About the Tree Scheme and Westwood Nursery:

We are seeking a Head Grower to support effective delivery of our Westwood Nursery and Tree Scheme programs.

The Tree Scheme provides an opportunity for landholders to order low-cost seedlings across the State and opt to be matched with a volunteer grower. The Westwood Nursery provides support to the Tree Scheme and grows seedlings for project orders and plant sales.

About the role:

As the Head Grower, your key duties and responsibilities will be to:

  • Deliver the annual schedule of native seedling propagation
  • Implement plant care to achieve strong plant growth and health
  • Ensure plants are organised and ready for collection/delivery
  • Undertake record keeping, data entry and stock control
  • Support plant sales and events held at the Westwood Nursery
  • Assist with maintenance of the nursery facility and equipment
  • Work safely and in line with industry best practice
  • Provide service and advice to clients, general public, staff and volunteers

Please note occasional out of hours and offsite work will be required.

As the ideal candidate, you will possess the following:

The successful applicant will have extensive skills and experience in native plant propagation and care, thorough knowledge of nursery standards and practice, the ability to implement process and system improvements, and strong time management and interpersonal skills. Relevant qualifications in horticulture or a related discipline (desirable). The role works within the Tree Scheme and Nursery Team and with volunteers in a team environment.

The successful candidate must hold a valid class c driver’s license. Due to the range of physical duties required for this position, such as bending, stretch and lifting, a contract will be conditional on the applicant passing a pre-employment medical examination.
