We provide assistance through emergency relief and financial counselling programs, adult personal development programs and support groups that empower individuals and activities for children in a caring, safe and fun learning environment. About You

The Spiers Centre is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Financial Counsellor to join our team. You will be willing to work with minimal supervision, travel and work from various locations in the northern metropolitan area, be a self-starter and a great problem solver with a passion to assisting people facing difficult financial situations.

About the role

The Financial Counsellor will provide:

  • A free and confidential assistance to individuals and families who are experiencing financial crisis or chronic financial difficulties through casework, advocacy and referrals
  • Direct case work or one-on-one intensive support, including negotiation and advocacy with creditors
  • Community education programs for the purpose of raising awareness of financial issues
  • An outreach service in order to ensure accessibility to services.

The role will involve providing financial counselling services at alternative outreach sites a number of days a week as required and rostered. Good record keeping, statistical data collection and quarterly reporting will also be required.

The service will be based across the northern suburbs and deliver services to clients from the Perth metropolitan area.

Selection Criteria:

  • Understanding of contemporary financial counselling and an awareness of consumer's rights and responsibilities
  • Experience in assessment, casework management, consumer advocacy, and the ability to maintain records and statistics
  • Sound understanding of the social issues facing financially disadvantaged clients and their families
  • Ability to communicate financial options, work with and empower people with respect and sensitivity, without judgement or discrimination.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment
  • High level of problem-solving skills, exceptional time management and organisational skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency of Microsoft Office suite and client management data base systems
  • Ability to work under pressure, be flexible and work independently as well as part of a small multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to adhere to and meet KPI's, deadlines and program and quality outcomes
  • Ability to be innovative and improve practices, documents and processes
  • Thorough knowledge of the relevant legislation and regulations pertaining to financial issues
  • Diploma of Financial Counselling/equivalent and minimum 6 months experience in Financial Counselling
  • Certificate of Membership with FCAWA
  • Permanent Residency/Australian Citizenship documentation
  • Possession of current National Police Clearance certificate
  • Unrestricted drivers license and reliable vehicle

Preferred skills

  • Experience in using CDS
  • Presentation/training skills in a group environment
