About the role

An exciting role now exists for a Mission Coordinator to cultivate and lead a new kind of community hub, within a reimagined retail store and cafe, where The Salvation Army mission is expressed and extended: caring for people, creating faith pathways, building healthy communities, working for justice.

Working with the local community, we are building a completely new Family Store where people will come together and connect to:

  • Find ways to make Wagga thrive, through diverse community activities and social ventures
  • Help people and planet, by recycling and selling generous donations
  • Create new opportunities for spiritual exploration.

The Mission Coordinator will report into the Corps Officer (Wagga Wagga) and is responsible for:

  • People and Culture: (40% of role)
  • Recruit, coach and manage paid and volunteer team, with 6 direct reports including a cafe manager, events coordinator and concierge, plus up to 15 indirect reports.
  • Community Outreach: (30% of role)
  • Proactively speak with store visitors about activities and events in the café and spiritual zones, and connect community members to each other, where there are shared interests or opportunities to collaborate on local issues.
  • Increase awareness of The Salvation Army in the community and identify, build and maintain meaningful connections and partnerships with appropriate community groups.
  • Events: (10% of role)
  • Assess suitability of proposed events and activities and provide guidance for their execution.
  • Spiritual oversight of the entire space: (10% of role)
  • Develop strategy for how faith pathways will be accessed and explored in the space.
  • Train and mentor team members (includes volunteers).
  • Engage visitors in conversations and assist them to explore faith pathways.
  • Business Reporting & Communication to Stakeholders: (10% of role)
  • Ensure measurement tools are successfully implemented and provide regular reporting on agreed KPIs for the new space.

About you

  • Strong appetite to be involved in the local community
  • A commitment to the Christian faith and mission of The Salvation Army
  • An ability to offer pastoral assistance, to offer prayer and to explain the Christian Gospel
  • Familiarity with retail or hospitality environments
  • Self-motivated, high level of initiative and strong work ethic
  • Urgency to action
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Strong presentation and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Ability to interact and network positively with a variety of people
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively
  • Ability to delegate
  • Team player, flexible with a positive attitude
  • Sound level of computer literacy.
