Social Security Rights Victoria (SSRV) is a state-wide community legal centre specialising in social security and related law, procedures and policy. The Financial and Consumer Rights Council (FCRC) is the peak body for financial counsellors in Victoria. SSRV and FCRC have established a partnership to bring together social security law experts and financial counsellors to work together more effectively to improve client outcomes.
The Integrated Services Project is funded by the Victorian Department of Justice and Community Safety, with the funding administered by the Federation of Community Legal Centres. The first year of the project is nearing completion and has demonstrated very positive results. Funding has been received for a second year to build on the work and outcomes delivered in 2019. The Integrated Services Project team includes a Financial Counsellor and a Community Lawyer.
The Financial Counsellor contributes to the ongoing development and implementation of this innovative integrated service. Key responsibilities include building awareness of respective skills, roles and professional obligations; delivery of direct financial counselling client services, including working collaboratively with community lawyers; providing information and secondary consultation support to other professionals; contributing to cross sector engagement and professional development; and identification of policy and systemic issues arising through client services and project implementation.
Applicants must hold a Diploma of Financial Counselling (or equivalent) and be eligible for full membership of FCRC. The successful applicant will be an experienced financial counsellor who has demonstrated ability to work within a financial counselling framework, experience in delivery of direct client services, excellent communication and stakeholder engagements skills, and the ability to work flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Proposals for secondments will be considered.
