About the Youth Affairs Council Victoria (YACVic)

The Youth Affairs Council Victoria (YACVic) is the peak body and leading policy advocate on young people’s issues in Victoria. YACVic’s vision is that young Victorians have their rights upheld and are valued as active participants in their communities. YACVic is an independent, not-for-profit, member-driven organisation that represents young people (aged 12–25 years) and the sector that works with them.

About the role

YACVic has partnered with the Koorie Youth Council (KYC) and the Victorian Government Office for Youth to support Aboriginal young people through a new Aboriginal youth mentoring program. The program provides local mentoring opportunities for Aboriginal young people to develop their skills and their connections to their culture and communities, enhancing their life skills and connecting them to education, training and employment.

The Youth Mentoring Project Officer will provide training, resources and outreach support around high-quality youth mentoring to Aboriginal community organisations in five locations across Victoria. A limited evaluation was conducted in early 2019 demonstrating the successes and strengths of the program pilot across two of the five existing sites.
