We target some of the communities most vulnerable and isolated people, including people experiencing significant mental health challenges, disability, homelessness, substance abuse, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, correctional services and economic hardship. With over 270 member organisations nationally [95 member organisations in Victoria], we currently provide over 100,000 participant opportunities throughout Australia annually.

Position Overview

Working closely with the Senior Sports Coordinator, the Sports Coordinator will be responsible for developing and running a diverse range of sport and recreation activities for people experiencing disadvantage. This will be achieved through the development of partnerships with member agencies, local mental health and welfare organisations, police, regional sports assemblies, sport providers, local councils, employment and training organisations, church groups and community support groups.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop, implement and coordinate the Reclink ActiVIC program in Greater Dandenong
  • Establish a formal Reclink network of member agencies in your location to assist in the development of programs;
  • Identify and recruit prospective member organisations and volunteers in Greater Dandenong;
  • Work closely with identified key stakeholders in the development of programs;
  • Establish a range of co-designed sport and recreation programs for disadvantaged young people;

Key Selection Criteria

  • Qualifications from a recognised TAFE, College or University in Youth Work, Community Services, Mental Health, Sport and Recreation, or similar and/or a minimum of two year's experience in the provision of direct support services to people experiencing disadvantage;
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of administrative support systems, innovative practice and high level of verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships in a community setting;
  • Demonstrated experience working with young people;
  • Demonstrated experience working with multicultural communities;
  • Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously and constructively in a team setting with minimal supervision;
  • Be a self-starter, reliable and able to work independently, innovatively and respectfully with diverse individuals and groups;
  • High level of time management and organisational skills and capacity to work effectively within agreed timeframes;
  • A positive National Police Check and Working with Children Check is mandatory;
  • Current drivers licence and own vehicle;
  • This is a contracted position ending on December 30 2019
  • Working 30 (0.8FTE) hours per week, NFP salary packaging applies;
