Sustainability and Heritage Assistant - Bathurst

Position Overview

The Sustainability and Heritage Assistant is responsible for key areas of sustainability. It is the role of the Sustainability and Heritage Assistant to ensure the St Joseph’s Mount property and sustainability enterprises at Rahamim are maintained and demonstrate best practice in sustainability and to maintain the heritage curtilage and gardens of Logan Brae, an 1870’s mansion, to a high level.

The Sustainability and Heritage Assistant is tasked with coordinating the small organic market garden and ensuring the polyhouse, shadehouse and garden beds are productive.

About 4ha of the property is a dedicated sustainability demonstration site. The ongoing maintenance and development of this vital part of the Ecological Learning Community is at the heart of this position. Care of the ‘chooks’ is within this role. The Sustainability and Heritage Assistant is expected to contribute to the educational programs associated with the demonstration sites.

The Sustainability and Heritage Assistant works closely with volunteers as well as members of the Rahamim team.

As a relatively new environmental organisation, Rahamim’s needs include the consolidation of its achievements in its first five years, initiatives to preserve its Mercy spirit and culture, along with the development and implementation of its future programs.

This position requires a highly organized professional that also understands the context of the ministry working environment.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Competencies

  • Appropriate qualifications and experience in horticulture, environment and sustainability
  • Experience and expertise in maintaining small motors [whipper snippers, mowers, chainsaw etc]
  • Experience in developing and documenting small projects and initiatives
  • Ability to support onsite educational programs
  • Ability to network and work collaboratively
  • Manage volunteers
  • Working knowledge of WHS compliance
  • Current Working With Children Check
  • Current Driver’s Licence
