The Role

  • Fixed term, Full Time until June 2020 with possible extensions in line with ongoing funding
  • Located in Cairns with Fly in, Fly out to Communities

Due to the expansion of our Mental Health services, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Qld Section) is seeking experienced Clinicians to become vital contributors to our team in remote Indigenous communities throughout Far North Queensland. This is a rare opportunity to become part of our multi-disciplinary Mental Health & Wellbeing Team, providing targeted psychological interventions within culturally appropriate and holistic framework. Dependent on years’ experience and qualifications, salaries start from 70K with senior positions attracting 94K plus super, including salary packaging arrangements, remote area incentives and relocation assistance can be provided where needed. We will support you in your endeavour to develop new skills in a close-knit team which encourages the sharing of ideas and knowledge.

Who we are looking for?

To be successful in this role you will need to possess the following:

  • Tertiary Mental Health qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or Nursing with the relevant registration or membership.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver psychological support in a flexible and responsive approach through brief interventions, ongoing therapeutic counselling, case management, and mental health education.
  • Understanding of the objectives and principles of mental health reform, and the contemporary issues facing indigenous people.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with remote communities with an understanding of the health and wellbeing issues that impact them.
  • The capacity to work overnight in community for up to three nights per week.
