  • Reports To: Maldon Neighbourhood Centre Coordinator (who reports to the Committee of Management)
  • Hours/Days: Part-time, 12 hours per week on Tuesday, Wednesdays, Thursdays. Fixed term contract for 12 months
  • Remuneration: Class I (unqualified) (Translating to SCHCADS (SACS) level 2 $26.39 per hour

Aim of this Position:

The Program Support Worker will be responsible for implementing and administering current Maldon Neighbourhood Centre programs and activities using community development principles.

Programs include the education and training program, community bus activities, playgroup, health and well-being programmes, regular venue hires, community garden and digital literacy support.

To work within the Centre in a flexible and team based approach.

Maldon Neighbourhood Centre Background:

Since 1986, the Maldon Neighbourhood Centre has provided a place for members of our community to come together to socialise, play, create, and learn. It is governed by a volunteer Committee of Management.

We are a not-for-profit community based organisation that encourages a sense of belonging and community engagement. Our Statement of Intent is “to provide a community directed meeting place which delivers effective and responsible social, recreational, health and educational support services that are informed by community development principles.”

The Centre offers a child-friendly outdoor space, a meeting area and classroom, a Community Garden open to all and a drop-in area with free Wi-Fi and a welcoming atmosphere, as well as the fantastic old Church hall. We run the Maldon Market, Community Bus and Occasional Childcare service as well as a wide-range of courses, workshops and other activities.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Working closely with the Centre Coordinator, the Program Support Worker will support the delivery of current programs in the following ways:

Administrative

  • Provide Reception duties at the Centre including taking bookings, enrolments and responding to enquiries on phone and email.
  • Ensure appropriate records, such as attendance, are kept for all programs and activities and assist with data collection such as feedback for reports and compliance.

Financial

  • Follow MNC financial procedures relating to payments and receipts
  • Support the Centre Coordinator with the preparation of program budgets

Venue

  • Prepare rooms and equipment as needed for activities
  • Ensure catering supplies (milk & biscuits) are stocked
  • Liaise with tutors and venue hire groups as needed.

Volunteers

  • Support and work with volunteers to complete appropriate tasks
  • Participate in Working Group meetings

Promotions and Marketing

  • Be responsible for the marketing and promotion of courses and community building activities, including preparation of flyers using existing templates, write press releases, maintain website content and administer Facebook pages
  • Support the publication of the quarterly newsletter
  • Manage newsletter distribution lists

Other duties

  • Relieving staff for lunch breaks and any other duty as directed by thr Centre Coordinator

Selection Criteria

  • Experience in co-ordinating education and community development activities.
  • Understanding of community development principles
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Ability to work in a flexible team based organisation, including an ability to take direction from other staff and work independently
  • Experience in marketing and promotions
  • Highly developed computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office suite
  • Previous experience working in community services or in a not-for-profit Committee of Management based setting would be an advantage

Schedule/Hours

The position is employed for 12 hours per week, with hours to be negotiated across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Some after-hours and weekend work is required. Additional hours as required to cover for Centre Coordinator’s annual leave and at other times as required. Additional hours will be paid at higher duties rate.
