The Maritime Union of Australia Division (MUA Division) of the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union is seeking an experienced legal practitioner to manage the provision of legal and strategic industrial advice and representation to the Officials of the Union.

Located in the Division’s National Office in Sydney, the position reports directly to the Deputy National Secretary, in consultation with the National Secretary, supervises and manages the Division’s internal National Legal Unit, and liaises with and instructs external legal service providers.

To be considered for the role, candidates will need to be able to demonstrate a breadth of experience in providing high level legal services and strategic advice with a strong emphasis on industrial and employment law, and will possess a sound understanding and strong working knowledge of the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth), Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009 (Cth) and associated legislation.  

A capacity for multi-tasking and an ability to manage a busy caseload is crucial.

The successful applicant will work with the Division’s Officials to ensure a coordinated approach to the Division’s legal and strategic industrial work.

To be considered for this role, applicants will possess a degree in Law, and have no less than 10 years’ or more post admission or equivalent experience in senior roles. You must hold an unrestricted practicing certificate, or eligibility to obtain one to be considered for this role.
