Program Officer - Suicide Prevention Initiatives

North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN) is Victoria's largest independent, locally governed and run, not-for-profit PHN, dedicated to improving primary health care within our community. NWMPHN is committed to ensuring that the health and wellbeing of our most vulnerable communities is improved in a coordinated and accountable manner.

NWMPHN is one of two PHNs across Australia leading suicide prevention trials focused on the LGBTIQ community. The trial aims to address the barriers to LGBTIQ people accessing and receiving appropriate mental health and suicide prevention care as well as aiming to build upon protective factors against suicide. We are currently searching for a Program Officer to collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and implement evidence-based strategies to reduce suicide and improve integration of existing services.

What does the role involve?

  • Stakeholder engagement - undertake meaningful and multifaceted engagement with community and service providers
  • Commissioning - implementing co-design strategies with key stakeholders to address priority needs
  • Project Management - effectively support mental health services commissioned by NWMPHN that address suicide prevention and intervention needs

To succeed in your application, some of the key requirements include:

  • Tertiary qualification in community development, mental health or a health-related field and/or relevant professional skills and expertise
  • An understanding of the mental health system and specialist LGBTIQ services
  • Demonstrated experience working with one or more of the following communities: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex
  • Experience in project management: ability to develop detailed plans, monitor progress, anticipate issues and solve challenges
  • Experience in effective stakeholder engagement and relationship development with mental health including consumers, carers, service providers and policy makers
