The Opportunity

The Intake and Support Clinician will provide a welcoming first point of contact for young people seeking support at headspace Hawthorn. The main part of the role is to provide face-to-face intake assessments for clients referred to the service. Ongoing support to young people will be provided in the form of liaising with family members or other professionals to help inform recommendations for service. The Intake and Support Clinician is the primary contact for young people whilst waiting allocation or referral to further or alternative supports. The Intake and support Clinician will also hold a small caseload of brief intervention clients.


  • Manage enquiries (duty) to the service, screening and booking of intake appointments
  • Assist in matching young people with the most appropriate internal/external service based on client needs, assisting with referral processes
  • Support and monitor young people until their allocation to internal/external services
  • Include family/careers/friends in support and assessment where required

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, youth work, welfare or health with a component of mental health discipline and/or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of working in a client triage/intake service using psychosocial and risk assessments
