Women's Diversion Worker - Woorabinda

Drug ARM is a specialist drug and alcohol agency founded on Christian principles. The organisation has been serving the community in Queensland since 1933.

The PHN region defined as Central Queensland and specifically Woorabinda is funding the delivery of a pilot diversion program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women using alcohol and other drugs in the Woorabinda community.

Position Overview

The service is to promote better health outcomes by increasing the availability of culturally appropriate counselling services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in the Woorabinda area using methamphetamine, alcohol and other drugs, and their families/carers.

Provide linkages with broader health services, including mental health services, to better support integrated/coordinated treatment and referral pathways to support clients with comorbid mental health conditions.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  1. Relevant qualifications and/or experience based on the pre-requisites for this position.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of alcohol and other drug issues and other at risk behaviours affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.
  3. Demonstrated experience in delivering culturally appropriate individual counselling sessions and Group facilitation.
  4. Effective networking and partnership skills focusing on establishing and maintaining culturally appropriate and seamless referral pathways, including the Courts and Police.
  5. Good interpersonal skills including communication skills, and demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships.
  6. A good knowledge of, and skills in using the internet, Microsoft Outlook, report writing and client management databases.
