Intake Case Manager

We are seeking a supportive and motivated case manager to undertake case management activities with a focus on intake under our crisis accommodation services for young women aged 13-17 at The Girls’ Refuge.

Detour House Inc’s The Girls Refuge (TGR) takes a holistic approach to empowering girls to regain stability and grow confidence in their daily lives in a safe and comfortable home-like environment. We provide a foundation for girls to find stability so they are able to move on with their lives with freedom and choice. The Girls’ Refuge (TGR) provides crisis accommodation, case management, and support with transition into housing or reconnection with family in Sydney’s inner-west. We extend support under a 24/7 residential setting, and through outreach activities.

TGR’s Intake Case Manager will focus on providing early intervention, intake and transitional case management support to young women experiencing crisis and homelessness.

TGR supports girls from a range of backgrounds and is seeking experienced staff who reflect the cultural diversity of our clients. People from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people from CALD backgrounds.

Please note: Due to the complex nature of its female clients, TGR only employs female staff and is exempted under the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

Selection Criteria

Essential Criteria:

  • Bachelor degree in Social Work / Human Services or a related field, or minimum 3 years experience in a casework role working with young people
  • Experience and demonstrated ability in providing high quality crisis intervention, case management and advocacy support for people with complex needs
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, build rapport with, and support young people to achieve positive outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a trauma-informed, person-centred and strengths-based approach to case work
  • Proven ability to maintain boundaries and respond to challenging behaviours
  • Strong organisational and computer skills

Compliance requirements:

  • Current NSW Driver's License
  • Must be willing to be part of a rotating on-call roster for crisis accommodation including weekends
  • Clear Working with Children and National Criminal History Record checks (or willingness to obtain these prior to commencement)
  • Current First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
