Deception Bay Neighbourhood Centre (DBNC) is looking for an Intake and Response Worker to work in our team. As a member of the DBNC team, you’ll be working with a dedicated small team, using a strengths-based approach to provide support to community members. 

Deception Bay Neighbourhood Centre (DBNC) is an incorporated community organisation, whose core business is to provide a range of programs, services, activities and facilities to residents in the Deception Bay area. DBNC’s mission is to be a catalyst in the community for empowering local people to achieve their goals and to advocate for change on issues that impact our community. We do this by supporting and providing local services, activities and initiatives, and working collaboratively to provide opportunities within the community. DBNC has two key documents that guide us in delivering our services; the Community Development Framework and Strategic Plan.

About this Role

The Intake and Response Worker will provide excellent customer service that is sensitive to individual need, to all community members that call or enter the centre. As the first person community members meet when they enter the centre, the Intake and Response Worker will provide a person-centred approach when communicating with clients, field and direct enquiries, and provide non-judgemental, confidential, professional services to all. With an excellent knowledge of internal programs and other local community services, the Intake and Response Worker will work closely with clients to access services that best meet their needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Intake and Response Workers duties include:

  • Greet community members that enter the centre.
  • Undertake preliminary assessment that identifies client need/s: work with clients to discover and understand the individual issues they face, access and prioritise key needs, and provide support according to DBNC Intake and Response policy and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external partners and community organisations to meet needs where possible: process referrals and book appointments in line with Intake and Response procedures, taking into account level of support and urgency of need.
  • Provide private and confidential intake and response for individuals that present at the centre in need of emergency relief.
  • Manage administration tasks, including making appointments, data collection, maintaining client records, and reporting.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of systems and processes.
  • Keep up-to-date with internal and external services in the bay, funding body requirements, and legislation.
  • Maintain files and database records.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. A relevant tertiary qualification in social work or its equivalent, or significant experience and skill in working with vulnerable individuals and families.
  2. Demonstrated ability to use a range of active engagement strategies with vulnerable individuals to identify their needs.
  3. Demonstrated ability to provide short term relief and/or identify and refer to other services.
  4. Ability to develop and maintain positive internal and external working relationships that foster partnerships and improves outcomes for individuals.
  5. Computer skills, including use of Excel, Word and Outlook.
  6. Be eligible for a Blue Card.
