Darebin City Council is looking for Senior Environment Programs Officer (Sustainable Consumption) to lead Council’s waste education, food and sustainable consumption programs, in this full time ongoing role in the Climate Emergency and Sustainable Transport team.

We have achieved national, state and professional recognition with awards across waste and litter, sustainable education programs; community partnerships and overall environmental management.

About the role

You will be working as part of the Climate Emergency and Environment Programs team, where you will be responsible for leading Council’s community facing waste education, food and sustainable consumption programs. You will have the chance to make a direct impact by implementing projects and initiatives within Council’s Waste and Litter Strategy and Urban Food Production Strategy.

You will have the chance to identify partnership opportunities for innovative projects and trials, develop community education campaigns, support strategies and programs and advocate Council’s objectives.

You will also have two team members to support you as direct reports, which focus on waste education and avoidance.

To be successful you will have:

  • An understanding of environmental issues, specifically recycling, waste and food consumption and production issues, as they relate to local government.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – you will have the ability to work with all levels of management, staff and community.
  • Experience in designing community facing programs
  • A tertiary qualification in environmental management or science, sustainability, waste management or a related field, and/or demonstrated equivalent competencies gained through substantial experience in these or related fields.
