Anglicare’s Children & Families teams have been supporting families, youth and children since the 1800’s, offering assistance in foster and kinship care, relationship and counselling, residential care and much, much more. We acknowledge, and are committed to, ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who are under our care are connected to the their family, kin, community and culture.

As we continue to increase our understanding, we require the expertise of a Cultural Support Worker within our Gold Coast team. This role is responsible for the support and guidance of Foster Carers and staff to improve their knowledge and awareness of the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people. We aim to respond in a holistic way that considers family, spiritual, community and individual needs to achieve better outcomes.

This is a part time role, working four days per week on a twelve-month contract.

It is a genuine occupational requirement of this role to identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, under S25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).

Skills & experience:

Having a real connection to culture, you will be passionate about supporting both young people and those who care for them to increase their knowledge and understanding. To join our team you will also need to display the following:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and a commitment to the development of meaningful connections for children to their family, community, country & culture
  • Experience in supporting vulnerable children & families and a professional understanding of the impact statutory systems can have
  • Act as an ambassador for cultural unity – providing mentorship, guidance, training and advice to non-Indigenous carers and staff to assist in the development of their cultural understanding
  • Being an engaged team member – working across multiple programs with a range of management, staff and external stakeholders
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a ‘can do’ attitude and proactive approach to problem solving and successful outcomes
  • Strong time management and ability to work to deadlines effectively – including completing case notes and documentation as required
