About this position

The State Coordinator works closely with the ActionAid Campaigns Team and the broader activist network. Their focus is to manage local ActionAid groups within a geographic area. State Coordinators support 1-2 ActionAid local groups and their respective volunteers to organise and campaign in their communities.

Please ensure before applying for this position you are available to come to a three-day training and strategy event in Sydney on the weekend of the 8th-10th March (ActionAid will cover any transport, accommodation and food expenses).

Roles and responsibilities

  • Managing 1-2 local ActionAid groups within your respective state.
  • Liaising between staff and groups through regular check-ins.
  • Supporting local groups to set objectives and create plans.
  • Reporting back quarterly on how groups are tracking.
  • Attending local group meetings and events.
  • Reporting back at online monthly meetings with the National Leadership Team (comprised of all State Coordinators).
  • Supporting the development of leaders in communities.
  • Recruiting new leaders to the network.
  • Facilitating trainings with local groups.

Selection criteria

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • 1 day per week to spare for this role.
  • A passion for community organising and building activism in communities across Australia.
  • A demonstrated commitment and passion for women’s rights.
  • Some experience in people management.
  • A commitment to ActionAid’s values.
  • Computer literacy and ability to use phone and email systems.
  • Respect for ActionAid’s independence and an ability to work within this ethos.
  • Passion for social justice and the role that everyday people can play to achieve a fairer and more equitable world.
