AYCafe and Catering is an exciting project that has supported over 30 young people (15-24) to find employment in the last 6 months. Our project is a social enterprise based in Auburn Youth Centre, open 6 days a week as a functioning cafe and catering business. The project supports young people to gain work experience and hospitality qualifications in a professional and supportive environment at their own pace.

We are seeking an experienced hospitality professional with a background in catering and commercial cooking to mentor our young people. This role is a contract role of 5-6 months to fill a vacancy created as the organisation has granted the incumbent extended leave. You will enjoy working with young people from all cultures and backgrounds, have experience in training in the hospitality field, be non judgmental, a problem solver and flexible in your availability. You will be available to start in the near future.

Essential Criteria

  • Be an experienced and passionate mentor and trainer of young people (15-24 years) in the hospitality field.
  • Have supervisory experience in a commercial catering environment and the ability to cater for functions of up to 150 people.
  • Be an experienced commercial cook with the ability to produce culturally appropriate and dietary informed meals.
  • Hold qualifications in the hospitality field and/ or a current food safety supervisors certificate (or willingness to immediately attain certification)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • An understanding of and commitment to the principles of workplace diversity; participative work practices and WHS.
  • Strong team player
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts Monday to Saturday to meet AYCafe & Catering needs.
  • Current unrestricted drivers license
  • Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance

Desirable

  • Barista experience
  • A community language
