About The ASRC

The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement. We are an independent not for profit, whose programs support and empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social wellbeing. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia. We are proud to be owned and run by our community of volunteers and supporters.

The ASRC employs over 100 staff and depends on over 1,000 dedicated volunteers to carry out programs that support and empower over 4,500 people seeking asylum each year.

About The Role

You will be part of team charged with the responsibility of mobilising people in the community to take action on the rights of people seeking asylum, to build a bigger and more diverse movement. Using your flair as a 'people person' you will be responsible for managing communication and relationships with community, ASRC supporters and allies. Your primary role will be to support the roll out of the #Right Track on the ground campaign. This role may involve some off-site duties at community events, training sessions and actions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive training in the use of Nation Builder to maintain, update and grow a database of supporters and allies
  • Develop phone scripts and warm call community, supporters and allies to engage them in #RightTrack workshops, projects and actions
  • Scope out potential supporters across targeted electorates
  • Create and maintain relationships with local champions, and provide ongoing support to local groups.
  • Create a range of digital content including emails, Facebook posts and production of a regular supporter newsletter
  • Organise events relating to team activities and actions

What we're looking for

  • Data management skills
  • Experience in customer relations, relationship management or excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Event management skills
  • Experience in the use of relationship management system Nation Builder (desirable)
  • Experience in community organising highly regarded

Commitment Required

We are looking for a commitment of 1 shift per week, ideally for 12 months. Shifts are available Tuesday -- Friday, 10am - 3pm.
