About the ASRC

The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement. We are an independent not for profit, whose programs support and empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social wellbeing. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia. We are proud to be owned and run by our community of volunteers and supporters.

The ASRC employs over 100 staff and depends on 1000 dedicated volunteers to carry out programs that support and empower over 4,000 people seeking asylum each year.

About the Role

This role will work closely with the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator to research and build invaluable, ongoing relationships with schools, peak bodies and other organisations that can assist in promoting the ASRC’s volunteer roles.

This position is crucial in the ASRC being able to find the highly skilled volunteers we need to run our various programs.

Commitment Required

We are looking for someone who can commit to ~4-6 hours per week, spread across the week.

There is flexibility for some or all of the work to be done remotely, however some initial meetings would be required at the ASRC Footscray.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator and relevant ASRC staff to establish which areas of the ASRC require assistance with recruiting volunteers
  • Assist with research and follow up potential contacts / channels, through which volunteer recruitment can be promoted
  • Build and establish ongoing relationships with relevant contacts / channels
  • Contact these channels during recruitment periods and provide them with relevant information / promotional materials

What we're looking for


  • Excellent outreach, communication and relationship building skills
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to capture target audiences through text, particularly online and via social media
  • Ability to run with a project brief and work autonomously
  • Proficiency with Excel
  • Ability to quickly comprehend and learn about different roles at the ASRC, and the requirements of each
  • Ability to think creatively and “outside the box” in outreach and networking situations.


  • Research skills and experience, particularly via online channels
  • Experience with recruitment, ideally volunteer recruitment
  • Experience working with people from different cultural backgrounds
