Established in 1994, AFL SportsReady (AFL SR) is an independent, not-for-profit company which is dedicated to helping young Australians to develop careers through traineeships, direct employment programs, cadetships and educational opportunities.

We have kick-started the careers of approximately 14,000 jobseekers, including over 2,000 Indigenous Australians, and supported hundreds of organisations and businesses right across Australia.

AFL SR is a National company with around 70 staff with offices and trainees located right across Australia. The Tasmanian office is located at Blundstone Arena in Hobart.

The Opportunity

The purpose of the part time Educator and Field Officer role is to deliver accredited education and to support the safe and successful completion of a case load of trainees. This role also involves managing any relevant program and student administration.

A day in the life of this role could involve delivering workshops to groups of students, making visits to trainees at their workplaces, and organising trainee administration such as marking, assessment, as well as updating trainee records on our student management system. It is a diverse, varied and hands-on role which provides a significant opportunity to make a positive difference to the lives of young people through Education and Employment.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Education delivery and planning: Provide high quality accredited education through the delivery of Sport and Recreation qualifications. Deliver education through workshops and one on one sessions and delivery in a range of workplaces across Tasmania, and assisting the design and planning of course resources where required
  • Working with and supporting trainees: Provide support and guidance, and monitor the progress of trainees throughout the course of their traineeships. Use a range of communication methods to support trainees including face to face, phone and text, and email.
  • Host employer support and management: Build and maintain positive relationships with current and potential host employers through the provision of high quality education and employment services, and a high level of customer service.
  • Support promotion and business development activities:Engage with a variety of stakeholders, primarily current and potential trainee host employers, to promote AFL SR’s education and employment services, and achieve repeat business for traineeships.
  • Administration: Complete all relevant program and student administration, including maintaining accurate trainee and student records, file notes, and assessments.


The benefits on offer to the successful candidate include:

  • Located at Blundstone Arena, Bellerive.

  • Ongoing, part time role at 3 days per week;
  • Base salary of $42,000 per annum ($70,000 per annum FTE);
  • $7,200 annual car allowance as compensation for work related travel that is a requirement of the Educator/ Field Officer role;
  • + superannuation at 9.5% of base salary;
  • Opportunity to negotiate flexible hours and work arrangements;
  • 5 weeks total leave per year (4 weeks annual and 1 week gratis);
  • Leave loading of 17.5% for annual leave;
  • Additional 2 days of cultural leave for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander team members; and
  • Support for professional development.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Mandatory Requirement - Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116) or equivalent
  • Hold a relevant Sport and Recreation or Business qualification, or equivalent
  • Working with Children Check and current Driver’s License
  • Demonstrated understanding and practice of respect for people across a range of backgrounds and cultures
  • Relevant industry experience within Sport and Recreation, Business, or similar in the vocational sector
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver education to a high standard in workshops and through one on one student engagement
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Vocational Education and Training Sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver Sport and Recreation / and or Business education programs
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of the management of students through a student management system
