THE ROLE

As a Peer Worker & Care Navigator your lived experience is pivotal in guiding and empowering others' on their recovery journeys. Using your own experience appropriately and openly to build strong relationships, provide mentorship, and enhance case management at the AOD Hub, fostering a culture of person-led, strength-focused support.

THE HUB 

The St Vincent de Paul Society NSW has been awarded a grant from NSW Health to open and operate an Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Hub in the New England region, NSW. The New England AOD Hub, is an exciting new service that will provide specialist AOD treatment and support, with a focus on delivering services tailored to meet the needs of people living in rural and regional areas. Collaborating with Armajun Aboriginal Health Service and other local services, the AOD Hub will be providing services for people living in the New England region as well as people with co-occurring mental health issues, those who are at risk of homelessness, Aboriginal people, and people in contact with the criminal justice system.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a key worker in the support, care coordination, and case management of a person accessing the Hub Effectively support people to build their own hope, empowerment, citizenship, and connectedness.
  • Contribute to decreasing stigma and discrimination around having a lived experience of AOD use.
  • Collaborate with Armajun Aboriginal Health Service and other service providers
  • Support the AOD Hub intake screening process and complete intake screens and assessment with people wishing to access the Hub, when required
  • Complete treatment outcomes assessments and client satisfaction surveys with people accessing the Hub
  • Ensure treatments are targeted and culturally appropriate for Indigenous Australians
  • Develop, promote, and implement referral pathways and facilitate access to range of community-based health and non-health service providers.
  • Participate in delivering psychoeducation and AOD-focused group programs. Support the AOD Hub Manager in the development of the New England AOD Hub Consumer Advisory Committee.

YOU WILL NEED 

  • Certificate IV or above in a relevant field OR a minimum of 2 years full-time experience working in the human services field.
  • A personal lived experience of a AOD use and recovery.
  • Willing and able to utilise your lived experience of AOD use and recovery effectively, respectfully, and appropriately.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by people with lived & living experience of AOD use.
  • Current Australian Drivers Licence.
