The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) is an independent statutory office established to protect the rights, interests and wellbeing of adults with impaired decision-making capacity, and children and young people in the child protection system and those accommodated in disability services, Authorised Mental Health Services, residential health services and youth detention centres. About the Role

The role of the Team Leader, Communications and Engagement works with a high level of autonomy in a fast-paced work environment focussed on:

  • Developing and delivering internal and external publication of content across a range of traditional and digital channels
  • Providing operational and strategic advice to senior management and OPG staff on communication and stakeholder management issues
  • Establishing and nurturing collaborative internal and external stakeholder relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach a small team which delivers a range of internal and external communications, engagement services and stakeholder education activities.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate complex communications and engagement strategies and plans to support the achievement of OPG’s organisational goals.
  • Provide expert strategic advice on communication strategies, stakeholder engagement, media relations and emerging issues to support OPG’s strategic decision-making processes and critical issue responses.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of internally and externally published content, including internet and intranet content, brochures, guides, reports (including the Annual Report), speeches, media releases and briefing notes with a focus on accuracy, reader engagement and accessibility.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Communications policies, procedures, and quality assurance processes to facilitate high quality business operations.
  • Manage media activities, including researching and preparing media statements and responses, and coordinating interviews for the Public Guardian as required.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships to ensure effective collaboration and engagement to support operational core business and produce quality client-focussed outcomes.

A tertiary qualification in marketing, advertising, communication, or a related field will be highly regarded but is not essential.
