About the Opportunity

This is a full-time fixed term opportunity until June 2025 working 35hours / week across 5 days at Newpin in Port Kembla

We are currently seeking a supportive and adaptable Play Worker to join our Newpin team in Port Kembla.

As a Play worker your role will be to provide supported play with children and their parents.  Supporting our Play Facilitator, you will provide therapeutic play opportunities and educational programs aimed at strengthening attachment between parents and their children and increasing parents’ knowledge of child development and the benefits of play.

This role requires motivated, sensitive, and nurturing professionals who are passionate to work collaboratively within our team and to develop safe relationships that support children and their parents. The children attending our program are likely to be living away from their parents and experienced trauma. Experience working with children that have trauma is desirable but not essential.

Who are we?

The Newpin - New Parent and Infant Network program specialises in the development of emotional maturity and well-being of parents who have children placed in Out of Home Care due to child protection concerns. Newpin promotes the skills that parents need to manage practical as well as emotional challenges in the parenting of their children and increase the elements of safety within the family with a view to restoring children back to the family home. 

What you need to succeed:

  • Minimum Certificate III or Diploma in Children’s Services (Early Learning), with experience working with children from birth to 6 years
  • Must hold a current WWCC
  • Knowledge of child protection and mandatory reporting
  • Demonstrated experience in working with children (0-6) who are displaying challenging behaviours (desirable)
  • Some experience and/or training in using play as a therapeutic and educational tool with children is preferred, with a passion to build your skills in this area. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, families and community members
  • Experience working with diversity, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and culturally and linguistically diverse families.
  • Believe in positive team spirit and embrace working in a diverse team
