Since 1997, Katherine Women’s Information & Legal Service (KWILS) has been committed to advancing women’s rights by providing free legal services for those who identify as women and non-binary people experiencing disadvantage in Katherine and the Big Rivers Region.

Through a culturally sensitive and trauma-informed approach, KWILS provides legal advice and representation for clients in the areas of family and civil law, specialising in domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV) and deliver integrated support services, creating a holistic experience for their clients.

KWILS is dedicated to driving legal and cultural changes to correct power imbalances, combat violence against women and children, and tackle gender and other inequalities, ensuring women can live in safety with dignity and respect.

Your Impact

Working with a highly engaged and collegiate Board, you will manage the day-to-day operations of KWILS and its delivery of services in the Katherine and Big Rivers region.

Specifically, you will:

  • Provide inspirational, collaborative and confident leadership to a talented and dedicated team.
  • Deliver on strategic objectives and ensure high quality governance across the organisation.
  • Identify further opportunities to diversify funding for future sustainability.
  • Lead and manage KWILS policy and law reform work.
  • Network and foster collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders including community, government, service providers and other women’s legal service organisations.

What you bring

This role would suit a down to earth CEO or senior leader who is passionate about making meaningful changes within the community and who has skills ideally developed within the community legal sector, advocacy, human services, or similar client focused organisations.

You also have:

  • Success leading, managing and developing staff whilst promoting an inclusive and positive culture.
  • The ability to develop and implement strategy and inspire a clear vision of success.
  • Political astuteness and solid advocacy skills to inform policy and law reform.
  • Sound financial management including managing funded service models and operational excellence.
  • A track record of building trusted relationships with a broad range of stakeholders across State and Federal government agencies, partner organisations, community members and philanthropic funders.
  • A valid driver’s licence and a Northern Territory Ochre Card and Police Clearance (or willing to obtain one).
