We have been supporting people living with the day-to-day impacts of mental illness, as well as their families, friends and carers for over 45 years.

It’s an approach to mental health and wellbeing that looks at the whole person in the context of their daily life. Mind is committed to diversity and social inclusion.

About the role

Youth Prevention and Recovery Care (YPARC) is a short stay residential service, delivered in partnership with Victorian hospital networks and Health Service, to support young people aged 16-25 years who require additional support to manage their mental health. YPARC is a ‘step-up, step-down’ program to assist in the transition from an acute hospital setting to prevent hospital admissions for those entering directly from the community. The service provides individualised 1:1 support, shared supports and group work based on young people’s strengths to enable them to achieve their recovery goals, enhance relationships with families and carers, develop everyday living and social skills, build community networks, and increase confidence and capacity to live safely in the community.

We are seeking compassionate, self-motivated Community Mental Health Practitioners for permanent part time opportunity (30.2 hours per week) to work alongside a caring team on a 24/7 rotating roster in Bendigo. You will provide intensive person-centred, recovery-oriented supports to young people to achieve their wellbeing goals, and build capacity to live independently in the community.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality services and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
  • Support young people to return to their community, live independently and enjoy a meaningful life through an individualised approach to recovery.
  • Provide information and mentoring to young people to establish relationships with families and carers, create community networks and access to relevant services.
  • Plan and deliver group programs that aid young people to build their skills and focus on recovery.
  • Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to the young people’s recovery goals.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
  • Expertise in working with people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
  • Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
  • Relevant experience in facilitating group activities for clients experiencing mental ill health.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Salary packaging up to $15,899 p.a. allows you to allocate a portion of your pre-tax income to cover living expenses (e.g. rent, mortgage, child care, car leasing expenses etc.)
  • Option to access Meal and Entertainment allowance up to $2,650 p.a. via Salary Packaging.
