ABOUT DVAC

Vision : Reduce the prevalence and impact of gender-based violence in our communities.

Purpose: DVAC works with individuals and communities to eliminate, prevent, and respond to domestic and family violence, and sexual violence by:

  • Collaboratively providing quality support services
  • Challenging social norms and structures that enable people to use violence/enable the use of violence
  • Building awareness and capacity within the community, and
  • Encouraging egalitarian relationships.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role specifically focuses on assisting victim-survivors who are homeless or at risk of homelessness due to domestic and family violence. As a Housing Connector, you will provide case management services, including assessment, safety planning, and assistance to find safe & affordable housing.

In this role, you can make a significant impact in the lives of individuals and families by providing them with safe and affordable housing options. You will be responsible for conducting mobile outreach services, assessing risks, creating safety plans, offering information and advocacy, and making referrals. Collaborating closely with various agencies, you will ensure that our clients have access to the necessary resources and services to promote housing stability and safety.

Strong administrative and organisational skills, as well as the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, are essential for success in this position. Additionally, your demonstrated cultural awareness and commitment to working with diverse communities will be highly valued.

There are 3 permanent full time roles available in Toowoomba.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession (or near completion) of relevant tertiary qualifications in the human services field
  • Working knowledge of or the ability to acquire understanding of the Domestic & Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and knowledge of court and legislative proceedings as they relate to the Act (Desirable)
  • Current driver’s licence, Blue Card and evidence of Covid Vaccination (or medical exemption)
  • National Police Check upon successful offer of position.
  • Ability to work within the philosophy, objectives and policies of the organisation including: Working within a feminist framework, Working as a member of the staff team & utilising consultative and collaborative processes.
