The Domestic Violence Action Centre (DVAC) is seeking two dedicated individuals to join our team as Domestic & Family Violence Specialist (DFVS) in our Toowoomba office. DVAC is a specialist organisation focused on supporting victims of domestic, family & sexual violence in Ipswich and Toowoomba/Darling Downs. ABOUT THE ROLE

As a DFV Specialist, you will have the chance to apply your extensive knowledge of domestic, family, or sexual violence issues. This includes conducting thorough risk assessments, creating safety plans, offering crisis support, advocating for clients, and providing information and referrals to other services. You will also provide trauma-informed support tailored to each client's specific needs.

In addition, this role requires you to participate in case coordination and management, utilising excellent communication skills for negotiation, advocacy, and conflict resolution. You will provide a flexible service, including off-site visits for clients in regional areas, is crucial. This role requires working independently, ethically, and with minimal guidance when necessary. You will also assess women's eligibility for Safety Upgrades brokerage, conduct home safety audits, and collaborate with various departments and community services.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of relevant tertiary qualifications in the human services field
  • Experience and skills in gender-based violence risk assessment, safety planning, crisis support, domestic and family violence and sexual violence counselling, system advocacy and case management is preferred
  • Working knowledge of or the ability to acquire understanding of the Domestic & Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and knowledge of court and legislative proceedings as they relate to the Act
  • Working knowledge of or the ability to acquire understanding of the Child Protection Act 1999 Qld
  • All DVAC staff are required to complete a National Police Check upon successful offer of position
  • Current driver’s license
  • Current Blue Card (working with children check)

  • Ability to work within the philosophy, objectives and policies of the organisation including: Working within a feminist framework, Working as a member of the staff team & Utilising consultative and collaborative processes
