Women’s Legal Service Victoria (Women’s Legal), a leading specialist, trauma-informed, state-wide organisation, is seeking a Director Legal Services. This Executive role leads a multidisciplinary practice that assists women and non-binary people to address legal issues arising from family violence and sexual violence.
Women’s Legal improves the legal system for victim-survivors of family and sexual violence through an integrated legal service, capacity building programs, advocacy and law reform. The Director Legal Services provides strategic leadership, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based and trauma‑informed services that respond to client needs and drive systemic impact. The role leads a high‑performing team and strengthens organisational capability in integrated practice management.
The Director oversees the design, delivery and continuous improvement of innovative legal services, using sophisticated service design methodologies, monitoring emerging needs and outcomes, and embedding lived‑experience insights into planning and delivery. The Director plays a key role in advancing Women’s Legal’s influence and sustainability through strong stakeholder engagement. This includes cultivating and maintaining effective partnerships across the legal sector, government, community organisations and allied professionals, as well as proactively identifying opportunities for new collaborations and funding that strengthen referral pathways, expand service reach and support systemic reform.

Key requirements include:
Extensive legal practice experience in family violence and one or more of the following areas of law: family law, child protection, migration, criminal law, victims of crime.
Principal Practising Certificate with Trust, or eligibility to secure one.
Demonstrated capability to oversee complex, multi‑jurisdictional and integrated legal service delivery.
Proven leadership skills, including the ability to foster a healthy, values‑aligned, high‑performing culture;
Demonstrated expertise in managing legal service delivery at scale.
Deep understanding of trauma‑informed practice and the nature and dynamics of family violence, including the role and impact of the legal system.
Ability to build, maintain and leverage strategic relationships with key stakeholders.
