Committed to the vision that everyone deserves a safe and secure home, Habitat for Humanity Australia has been accredited as a community housing provider (CHP) and is only one of 55 agencies in Australia accredited by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT), enabling Habitat to receive funding for our international development programs.

Both the CHP and DFAT accreditation require stringent adherence to policies and processes. In addition, given Habitat’s programs in the construction space implementation of WHS regulations, policies and processes is critical.

Position Summary:

The Volunteer Compliance Advisor plays a critical role in ensuring Habitat for Humanity Australia (HFHA) adheres to all regulatory requirements and standards pertaining to Australian Government not-for-profit organisations, community housing and WHS. The Advisor will be supporting the CEO and the Leadership Team in the creation of a comprehensive compliance calendar, overseeing the implementation of and adherence to all relevant policies and processes and providing guidance on key compliance matters that impact the organisation. The ideal candidate will have a passion for Habitat for Humanity’s mission, along with commitment to promoting safety and compliance within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a comprehensive compliance calendar that tracks and schedules all necessary actions and deadlines for adherence to Australian Government regulations in community housing, DFAT accreditation and WHS.
  • Work closely with various departments/leadership team members, to ensure a thorough understanding of Habitat for Humanity’s operations, identifying potential compliance issues and implementing solutions.
  • As required, facilitate training and workshops for staff and volunteers to promote a culture of compliance and to ensure everyone is aware of their regulatory responsibilities.
  • Provide guidance and direction on key compliance and safety matters.
  • Collaborate with senior management to implement compliance policies and procedures across the organisation.
  • Serve as a point of contact for compliance-related inquiries and audits, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and readily available for review.
  • Coordinate with project managers and operational staff to ensure all construction and renovation projects meet or exceed WHS standards.

Essential Requirements

  • A strong commitment to the mission and values of Habitat for Humanity.
  • Experience or strong interest in compliance, legal, risk management, or a related field.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and training skills, capable of conveying complex information in an accessible manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of staff and volunteers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, Finance, or related field is a plus.
