We have a great opportunity for a dedicated and committed professional to join ASC, supporting families to provide the best possible start for their children. Working with your colleagues, this multifaceted role requires you to bring all of your energy, passion and empathy to work on child care projects to deliver direct support to families seeking asylum.

This is a part-time position, working 2 days per week based in Newtown on a fixed term contract of up to 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with and expand ASC’s network of child care partners, contributing to network growth, strength of relationships, and more opportunities for people seeking asylum to access child care placements
  • Work with the team to negotiate reduced fees for people seeking asylum, across regions and with individual centres, building on existing ASC knowledge and skills
  • Collaborate with other teams within, and external to, ASC to analyse child care barriers and execute creative solutions
  • Contribute to a child care provider package to maximise learning and engagement opportunities for potential partners to support placements for families seeking asylum
  • Provide post placement support for providers
  • Identify and assess eligibility for families to access child care placements
  • Work on pathway plans with families and other services, including needs, priorities, and exit strategies so that families are able to continue child care beyond the funded period
  • Support families during their placement with the child care provider including registration, fee payments, and trouble-shooting
  • Actively identify trends and prominent issues impacting project outcomes using research and project management tools and software

Selection Criteria

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

Essential:

  • Experience working in the community services sector
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Strong experience negotiating with and gaining support from external stakeholders; excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High-level confidence in using systems and databases
  • Good organisational, record keeping and time management skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to listen to, engage with, support, and learn from people with complex needs
  • Ability to think innovatively and creatively to solve problems as part of a team
  • Ability to adapt effectively to change

Desirable:

  • Experience in early childhood education, including ability to coordinate a caseload
  • Knowledge of the NSW child care landscape and/or Australian early education policy
  • Experience working with people seeking asylum, refugees and/or settlement services
  • NSW Driver Licence
  • Lived experience as a refugee or person seeking asylum
