Founded in 2001, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is Australia’s largest human rights organisation providing support to people seeking asylum. We are an independent not-for-profit organisation whose programs support and empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well being. About The Role

The Volunteer Coordinator oversees the coordination of volunteers and students across the Social Services, Client Engagement, and Housing and Aid Teams, along with related activities. Responsibilities include recruitment, training, and support for students and volunteers, ensuring adequate levels of both, and ensuring that daily teams understand their responsibilities and tasks. Additionally, this role fosters relationships between ASRC, Volunteering Victoria, and Educational Institutions to facilitate high-quality volunteer and student placements

About You

In addition to your extensive volunteer management experience, passion for program development and coordination, and and strong organisational skills, you will possess the following attributes, skills and experience:

  • Proven experience in volunteer management including recruitment, training and supervision.
  • Possess a relevant qualification Social Work, Welfare Work, Community Development or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in program coordination, including the establishment of systems and processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, adept at communicating across all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to have a consultative approach to decision making, while also taking ownership of decision outcomes and implementation.
  • Advanced skills and understanding of working with culturally diverse communities and commitment to inclusive cultural practices.
  • Experience and knowledge on the impacts of trauma, homelessness, mental health, child protection and family violence.

Lived experience of seeking asylum in Australia is highly desirable. Knowledge of policy and issues impacting on people seeking asylum in Australia as well as previous experience working within a not-for-profit environment, would also be advantageous.
