The Victorian Greens are looking for a Campaign Assistant to join our team for the upcoming Local Government and Federal Election Campaigns as we train up members and volunteers all across Victoria to help get more Greens elected at all levels of government.

About this role

The Campaign Assistant acts as the interface between Victorian Greens IT systems and users, ensuring volunteers are trained in our systems and understand how to best use them. This role will also work with the rest of the team to coordinate our general training program. As well as having a good mind for systems, processes and all things digital, you will need strong people and communication skills as you help users gain appropriate access and make effective use of the critical online infrastructure that underpins their work.

This role is currently part time, however there may be the opportunity to increase it to full time, now with additional projects, or at a later date as the campaigns ramp up.

About the Victorian Greens

Over the course of the last four decades the Greens have become the third force in Australian politics, with members elected to represent their communities at every level of government. We are a grassroots party that relies on the support of thousands of members and volunteers from across the state.

The Victorian Greens State Office supports party operations and the federal, state and local election campaigns in the state of Victoria. We’re currently preparing for the upcoming Local Government and Federal elections. The Greens are much more than an environmental party. While promoting meaningful and common sense solutions to ensure future generations of Australians have clean air, clean water and clean soil, The Greens are also working in many other areas to champion integrity, decency and fairness. As well as representing constituents, The Greens speak on behalf of those who wouldn’t otherwise get much of a say inside parliament: children, refugees, students, individuals and families living in poverty and, of course, our natural environment.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Training calendar development, coordination and promotion: Assess the relevant pathways and map out training schedules to best support our volunteers

  • Train users and develop resources: Develop and deliver training for key systems as well as campaign and engagement activities; as our systems update, maintain user support guides.

  • Administer user access: Ensure that the right people have the right access to our systems including, gVIRS, Rocket, CiviCRM, Google Workspace and Ryver

  • Support users: Attend to help-desk requests for key stakeholder groups (Greens staff, MPs and relevant staff, party members, office bearers, and volunteers) and ensure they are supported to use our campaign and engagement systems and follow our data management processes

  • Recruit and manage volunteers: Recruit and manage campaign volunteers to support key campaign, training and data management processes

  • Work as part of our collaborative state office team and complete other duties as directed

Selection criteria

We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet all of the selection criteria. We’re looking for someone organised and thorough and with passion for our movement, which we prioritise over formal education or qualifications. We believe there is strength in diversity and are committed to supporting the right person to grow into this role and thrive.

Key selection criteria

  • Values alignment: Commitment to the Greens policies, charter and core values: ecological sustainability, grassroots participatory democracy, social justice and peace and non-violence - and a passion for our movement.

  • Confident with technology: quickly develop mastery with new systems, and are curious to learn new things. Experience with constituent relationship management (CRM) databases would be ideal.

  • Team work/relationship management skills: Experience in working in various teams, including working well with others, having a friendly attitude in difficult conversations and an openness to build the capacity of others.

  • Effective communication: in print and in person, you can clearly communicate what to do, why to do it and how both one-on-one and in group settings

  • Outstanding organisation skills: prioritising and competing tasks under pressure, and thriving in a fast paced environment

  • Experience with group facilitation and training & volunteer training or support

Bonus points for applicants with:

  • Lived experience or connections to First Nations justice, racial justice, LGBTQIA+ justice, disability justice or gendered justice movements.

  • Political campaigning experience: A working understanding of political or social change campaigning as a staff, volunteer or grassroots activist

  • Specific systems experience: Experience using systems such as contact databases and mass email tools, including Drupal, CiviCRM and Nation Builder (or similar).

Why work for the Victorian Greens?

We offer a friendly, flexible and supportive workplace. Some great reasons to join the Victorian Greens team include:

  • A 4 day work week with full time pay (pro-rata for part time employees)

  • Above-average personal leave, including additional paid provisions for gender affirmation, sorry business, natural disaster, mental health, and domestic and family violence leave

  • Flexibility to negotiate working hours and some work from home

  • Four weeks of annual leave a year, bonus leave between Christmas and New Years Day, and flexible leave for cultural holidays

  • Access to our Employee Assistance Program and wellbeing support

  • Making a meaningful contribution to the political movement for people and the planet
