If you're looking for that dream community job or environmental job, but haven't yet found that golden opportunity, you might take some comfort in the story of someone who really has found their "dream job". So let us share Tim Robinson's story with you:

Tim was working as a freelance sound recordist when he returned to Australia from the UK and started looking for a job that really made a difference.

With a degree in tourism and marketing and a post graduate degree in education, he had a variety of options, but "I was a bit jaded with making reality TV programs," Tim says.

Like an increasing number of job seekers, he says rather than take another job in a large company, "I wanted to get a job that was both personally rewarding and socially beneficial."

Tim found EthicalJobs.com.au, and applied for a few jobs before one really caught his eye.

"I couldn’t believe it. When I saw it, it was exactly what I was looking for: Working from home, for a cause I felt strongly about and with a real chance of making a difference."

The position was PR Manager for Animals Asia, an international organisation that advocates for the rights of animals in the Asian region.

"I applied, underwent two interviews and was appointed. It has been a fantastic move for me, AA is a great organisation to work for, full of wonderful, dedicated people, committed to making the world a better place for animals throughout Asia.

"My role as the PR Manager for Australia and New Zealand primarily involves raising awareness of the issue in the two countries but because of the nature of the organisation you are expected to turn your hand to whatever is required at the time, from wearing a seven foot Moon Bear suit to helping out on bear rescues. I am very happy.

"An incredible part of my job is that I get to travel to China and Vietnam. In mid-September I am off to the Songpan Province in China with a group of people who have raised $6,500 each for Animals Asia. For two weeks we are trekking through some of the most fantastic scenery in the world, visiting the world’s largest stone Buddha, a Tibetan monastery, The Great Wall and of course the Animals Asia moon bear sanctuary, where there are close to 300 Moon Bears rescued from the horrific practice of bile farming."

Stories like these illustrate the breadth of possibilities which are out there for those who are proactive and willing to take advantage of opportunity.

International travel is a thoroughly rewarding experience, and those who are able to experience other countries and cultures as part of their employment are very fortunate. This is especially the case in an example like this where it involved working for a cause which Tim obviously felt strongly about.

Well done to Tim for being proactive and open-minded in his search for opportunity.
