Connections is a one-to-one social support program for people living with a mental illness. We set up safe and supportive structured friendships enabling people to reconnect with their community.

Consistent with Volunteering ACT strategic and corporate objectives and policies and procedures the Connections Program Coordinator will:

  • Coordinate all elements of the Connections Program as per the service agreement under the direction of the Manager
  • Coordinate an effective volunteering program to support the objectives of the Connections Program including recruitment, selection and screening, induction training, retention, and recognition
  • Prepare relevant documentation/packs for all meetings including: initial volunteer meetings, initial participant meetings, volunteer-participant introduction meetings
  • Ensure all volunteer-participant matches are determined by consideration of personality compatibility; location; participant ‘matching’ preferences; volunteer ‘matching’ preference; availability; common interests/hobbies; ages; understanding/experience of mental illness and ability to contribute to a two-way conversation.
  • Be the central point of contact for all enquiries and correspondence for the Connections Program
  • Maintain an effective volunteer and participant database, regularly review information and update as needed (including keeping up to date case notes)
  • Assist with the preparation and distribution of promotional material within the community for the Connections Program and Volunteering and Contact ACT
  • Ensure the 3, 6, 12-month feedback forms are distributed to the volunteers and participants in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Actively promote the Connections Program to the wider community
  • Collaboratively work with external stakeholders
  • Assist the Manager with information for reports for the Board of Directors and funding bodies as required
  • Other duties as required

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Current Working With Vulnerable People Check
  • Drivers licence and access to own vehicle with comprehensive car insurance
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Efficient using Microsoft Office software
  • Database entry skills
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment
  • Demonstrated time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in the community sector
  • Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable people
  • Ability to network with external stakeholders
  • Must be flexible as this position will require out of hours and weekend work on an as necessary basis

Desirable:

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health or equivalent and/or relevant experience
  • Experience in facilitating training and/or meetings
  • Experience using Office 365
  • Demonstrated experience working with mental health consumers
