Who we are

The Wilderness Society is a member-based environmental advocacy organisation. Established in 1976, we have been at the forefront of Australia’s most historic environmental campaigns, including the Franklin River, Fraser Island, Wild Rivers, Marine Parks, Tasmanian forests, numerous World Heritage areas and James Price Point in the Kimberley. The Wilderness Society supports Indigenous people's land and sea rights, and is committed to working with traditional and historical owners before and during campaigns to protect wilderness and nature.

The Wilderness Society Victoria has led and contributed to successful outcomes for forests across the state, including the Mallee, Otways, Red Gum, East Gippsland, Central Highlands and other iconic forests. We also encourage ethical timber and paper purchasing, and promote community awareness and involvement in nature conservation.

The Position

In collaboration with the Wilderness Society Victoria Inc. (TWSV) Committee of Management, the Operations and Business Development Manager, Victoria oversees all financial, operational, administrative and governance matters of the TWSV Campaign Centre.

The role works in close partnership with the Victorian Campaigns Manager in order to achieve the organisations’ goals and provides support to the Victorian Campaigns and Organising team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver financial and management accounting services on all aspects of the business
  • Devise TWSV budgets and manage funds accordingly with a focus on cost minimisation
  • Provide administrative, logistical and other support for TWSV campaigns and organising teams
  • Develop and manage implementation of organisational policies and procedures
  • Deliver IT services and application management support for TWSV
  • Provide HR services support (including inductions, employee life cycle, training and WHS) for TWSV
  • Assist with coordination of volunteers
  • Lead on organisational development and strategic planning (including facilitating change and culture initiatives)
  • Deliver on administration and operational needs of TWSV staff within the Melbourne office
  • Support and service organisational committees, where appropriate
  • Oversee risk management for TWSV
  • Operational compliance in relation to statutory and regulatory requirements including all State & Federal government and charitable reporting for TWSV and TWSV campaign activity
  • Collaborate & liaise with TWS departments, groups and entities to deliver on strategic & organisational goals
