The Wilderness Society is a not-for-profit, member-based conservation and environmental advocacy organisation with an extensive National supporter base. Established in 1976, we have been at the forefront of Australia’s most historic environmental campaigns, including the Franklin River, Fraser Island, Wild Rivers, Marine Parks, Tasmanian forests, numerous World Heritage areas and James Price Point in the Kimberley.

The Wilderness Society Victoria (TWS VIC) is a separately incorporated association that campaigns to protect wild and natural areas across the state and is a key advocate for biodiversity protection in Victoria. Central to this is a long running campaign to protect Victoria’s native forests, which are under threat from logging and the implications of climate change. This campaign is part of TWS’s national forest campaign agenda which seeks to protect all of Australia’s high conservation value native forests.

The Victorian Committee of Management are appointed by members to govern TWS VIC and oversee the activities of the Victorian Campaign Centre. They ensure these activities are in line with the organisations' mission and purpose, and that the organisation fulfils its regulatory compliance and statutory legal obligations. The Committee provides vision and leadership, setting policies and the strategic direction of the organisation, and ensures sound financial, legal and management accountability in order to deliver ongoing sustainability.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from candidates to join the volunteer Committee and to oversee the Finance portfolio. This portfolio supports the Treasurer in overseeing the organisation's financial status and ensuring appropriate financial records and processes are maintained. The role assists with the annual budget, annual report, AGM presentation and provides strategic and operational guidance and advice as required to ensure the ongoing financial viability of the organisation.

We are seeking someone with sound financial and business skills and experience managing financial accounts, reports and processes to take on this portfolio.

Volunteer commitment is in the region of 8-10 hours per month - which is mostly out of standard hours of work with attendance at Committee meetings.

Please see the attached Position Description below for additional information.
