Settlement Services International (SSI) is a NSW peak agency representing the multicultural settlement service organisations (formerly known as MRCs) in NSW. We are currently seeking a Coordinator for our Bilingual Humanitarian Workers Pool.

The Humanitarian Settlement Services Program is an early settlement service that links newly arrived refugee and humanitarian entrants to essential services and provides basic orientation to Australian services and systems.

Position Description

The Co-ordinator Bilingual Guides is responsible for managing our large pool of bilingual humanitarian workers throughout Western Sydney. This includes recruitment and training, supporting and allocating BWH’s to help guide and empower newly arrived refugees in their early settlement process. The position reports to the Human Resource Manager.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Work with SSI Case Management and Human Resource personnel to identify & recruit new casual BHW’s with relevant skills and languages to support newly arrived refugees.
  • Leadership, supervision and strength based support for BHWs ensuring a fair, ethical and courteous work environment;
  • Identify, organise and facilitate regular and creative training and education opportunities for BHWs;
  • Work closely with Case Management staff across 10 different work sites and organise and allocate BHW’s within tight deadlines;
  • Maintain efficiency and cost effectiveness of the BHW program to ensure quality of service for clients;
  • Responsibility and approval of BHW pool time sheets working closely with payroll to work within budget;
  • Responsibility to work within budget, approving requisitions/reimbursements for the BHW pool;
  • Develop and Implement BHW Framework including SSI policies and procedures for BHW team;
  • Ensure all BHWs are recognised for their efforts and contributions;
  • Provide regular reports to the management.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Cert 4 in Training & Assessment;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs and risks associated with newly arrived refugees and humanitarian entrants;
  • Experience coordinating and training a large team within the community/human services sector;
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and experience working with people from CALD backgrounds;
  • Excellent organisational and time management capabilities;
  • Understanding of Awards and Salary levels for Casual employees;
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) computer softwares including databases and training /presentation tools;
  • Experience working in a new and fast growing organisation and developing systems and structures;
  • Available to work after hours if required;

Desirable:

  • Experience in the supervision of staff in a social welfare context;
  • Case Management or Social Work experience/tertiary qualifications with people from refugee background.
  • Current driver’s license;
