Environment Victoria (EV) is a trusted and respected campaigner tackling the biggest threats to our climate and environment. Established in 1969, Environment Victoria is a progressive and highly influential campaigning, organising and advocacy body with more than 115,000 individual supporters – a rapidly growing community of Victorians standing up for a safe climate, healthy rivers and a sustainable future. After over ten years in the organisation, Environment Victoria’s current Chief Executive, Mark Wakeham is moving on to new challenges and leaves the wonderful legacy of a strong, stable and independent organisation primed to lead the way in working toward a sustainable future that has cleaner energy and a healthy environment.

Reporting to a highly skilled and committed Board, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will lead the organisation to deliver the vision and strategic direction of Environment Victoria as it continues to tackle the effects of climate change and damage to the environment. The CEO will ensure that EV operates efficiently and effectively, applying sound business principles to the operations, whilst exploring opportunities for supporter growth, thought leadership, and innovative ways to influence communities and decision-makers. As the ‘face and voice’ of EV, the CEO will also be responsible for building, promoting and strengthening partnerships with government, and relevant sector and community stakeholder groups to drive environmental protection systems and sustainability in Victoria. EV is part-way through its Strategic Plan, with a 2018 focus on the State Election, campaigning strongly to promote urgency in transitioning to clean energy and additional spending on environmental programs. The new CEO will be responsible for building on the significant achievements of EV and further enhancing the organisation as a respected leader in this field.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced, strategic, authentic and inspirational leader, who has strong people, public policy, and sophisticated advocacy and promotion skills to lead an organisation at the forefront of tackling threats to our climate and environment. You will be conversant with the current issues surrounding clean energy, pro-environmental and climate change policies and be able to articulate this into operational and scalable campaign models. Key to your success will be your entrepreneurial spirit, and ability to identify, capitalise and deliver on the opportunities to lobby, advocate and influence. As a leader you will be inclusive, collaborative and credible, able to communicate with influence, inspiring confidence in staff and other relevant stakeholder groups, including potential supporters and donors in a call to action. You will be experienced in Board reporting with a strong understanding and commitment to good Governance.
