Parramatta Mission is seeking a Community Development Coordinator to join the existing Community Development team across headspace Parramatta, Mount Druitt, Penrith and Castle Hill, under lead agency Parramatta Mission.

headspace is Australia's National Youth Mental Health Foundation. Our mission is to deliver improvements in the mental health, social wellbeing and economic participation of young Australians. To this end, headspace aims to be the focal point for youth mental health issues across the country. headspace Mount Druitt, Parramatta, Penrith and Castle Hill bring together an integrated and collaborative team of co-located and affiliated services, working as a coordinated network under the same lead agency, Parramatta Mission. We aim to provide a one stop shop approach of services to young people aged between 12-25yrs who are at risk of mental health and substance use issues across Western Sydney.

This position will be instrumental in developing, implementing and evaluating projects to build the capacity of the community to respond to mental health, drug and alcohol, primary care and social recovery issues of young people, via a broad range of community awareness, health promotion and health education activities. 

This position will be based equally across headspace Parramatta and Castle Hill and travel is required across Mount Druitt, Parramatta, Penrith and Castle Hill sites.

Essential Criteria - in order to be considered for this application, you should address the essential criteria listed here:

  • A tertiary qualification in health promotion, community development or related equivalent
  • Experience in facilitating Community Development initiatives and projects
  • Ability to document, monitor and report on community awareness strategies and plans
  • Workshop facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
  • Sound knowledge of mental health promotion and messaging
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to relate to young people

  • Current driver's license
  • Computer literacy in Windows Office programs
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends
  • Willingness to travel across Parramatta, Mount Druitt, Penrith and Castle Hill

Desirable Criteria:

  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Knowledge of the mental health and community sectors
  • Ability to produce newsletters and health promotion resources
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and management

Successful appointment to this position is subject to a satisfactory National Criminal History check and the candidate's provision of a valid Working With Children Check.
